Oak class have been doing lots of problem solving inside and outside of the classroom! They have measured the perimeter of the playground equipment and drawn their own plans of the playground.

Spring 1

We are going multiplication Mad! We are practising our times tables using strategies in our head aswell as learning how to solve long multiplication through formal methods.

Please keep practising at home. Your child needs to know all their times tables by the end of year 4. We will be doing times tables tests throughout the week.

Autumn 2

So far this term we have been learning how to add using column method, base ten, place value counters, hundred square and a numberline! We explore lots of different methods to improve our basic understanding of the concept. We will always try and use the best method depending on the numbers. We encourage the children to use prior knowledge to  help them and to look for what they know.

It is really important the children are confident with number bonds to 10, doubling and adding tens.

Here are some webpages to support maths learning:

Column Subtraction

We went outside and practised our column subtraction on the school playground!

Roman Numerals

In our first week back we spent learning about Roman Numerals. The children can not only count in Roman Numerals they have also been answering challenge questions involving addition, subtraction and multiplication! Some children have also been working out some very tricky number patterns using Roman Numerals.
