Talk 4 Writing

Poetry

Elm class have been writing some fantastic poetry. Initially, we learnt about Guy Fawkes and the gun powder plot and wrote some fantastic firework poetry using onomatopoeia.

We spoke about the Great War and the children created some emotive poetry. Both year groups created some beautiful acrostic poems. Year 1 thought about the young men who went far away from home to fight and created some thoughtful list poems about what they might have kept on their pockets - items included chocolate, photographs, diaries and a teddy bear to cuddle! Year 2 also thought deeply about the war and created some powerful haiku poems.

Innovating our own instructions

We finished our instruction writing by writing our own instructions  - the children came up with fantastic ideas many of which were linked to the Great Fire of London - how to burn down your house, how to stop the Great Fire of London and how to make bread were some of the great ideas.

Instruction writing

We have been using the Talk 4 Writing approach to learn how to write instructions. We have been practicing our text map for How to be a Time Traveller. Soon we will innovate from this to create our own instructions.
