Elm
The Teacher in Elm Trees is the brilliant Miss Coe who is closely supported by Mrs Esterling and Mrs Crighton (Teaching Assistants).
Elm Trees is currently a mixed age Year 1 and Year 2 class. We follow a rolling program of learning that enables us to ensure that children do not encounter the same themes twice, whilst ensuring that the knowledge and skills for each subject are taught. The themes used are broad enough for the children’s own interests to be incorporated within them, thus making their learning more personal and relevant. We have a brilliant learning environment and a huge range of exciting resources.

Golden Pheasants in Elm Class
This week Elm Class have experienced, first hand, the life cycle of Golden Pheasants! We were lucky enough to watch one of our eggs hatching! We were amazed at how strong and determined the chick was.
Snails in school!
Elm Trees had 36 (last time we counted!) visitors in class today. We had great fun looking carefully through the magnifying glasses to see their shells and slimy bodies! We recorded adjectives and wrote sentences to describe them and talked about what they eat and the habitat that would suit them best. We had a super sticky morning!
Forest School
This week we went to Moors Valley for a forest school morning. We worked with the rangers and learnt a lot more about trees and their leaves. We studied habitats and made shelters for animals that live in our forests.
We had a great time and we loved being out and about, we even had time to explore a giant ants' nest!
English in Elm Trees
We have been reading the story of 'Big Bear Hug' by Nicholas Oldland. We love this story, all about a loving bear who came across someone not so loving (a man trying to chop trees down!) and how he overcame his anger to be kind.
We use the Talk for Writing approach which leads to confident, enthusiastic story tellers and authors!

Maths in Elm Trees
In Maths we have been learning about the different ways numbers can be made. We have learnt about tens and units and how to 'partition' a number to show what it is made of. We used Squiggleworth (a one eyed dog!) and Numicon to help us.
