'Together We Grow: Together We Give'

Understanding Christianity

In RE today, we learned all about Raksha Bandhan. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means to tie. During this Hindu festival, traditionally, sisters give their brothers a special bracelet called a rakhi, made from colourful silk threads as a symbol of their love for their sibling. The siblings pray for each other’s protection and promise to stand by each other during good times and bad times as the bracelet is presented. Nowadays, rakhis are given to friends and other members of the family. We presented each other with bracelets with traditional Hindu phrases: ‘I wish you success’ followed by: ‘I will protect you’. We finished the session by trying gulab jamun, traditional Indian sweets! 😊

We held our own Remembrance service, in the spiritual garden. We placed our poppies in the lavender and remembered all that has happened in the past, during our 1 minute silence.

We listened to the song What a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong. We took time to reflect on the beauty of the world that God created and wrote our own lyrics.

After hearing about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we watched a newsround special which explained what had happened and celebrated some of the many achievements from Queen Elizabeth's life.
Together as a class we created our own prayer to thank God and share what the Queen meant to us. We have started making beautiful rainbows which we will write this prayer on.
