The RSPB Big Bird Watch

What is the RSPB's Big Schools' Birdwatch?

The RSPB's Big Schools' Birdwatch is a citizen science project designed for schools across the UK as part of the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch.

The children survey the birds they see in their school grounds or in their gardens and send the results to the RSPB. Submission for results is open between 5th January - 22nd February.

Why does the RSPB's Big Garden and Big Schools' Birdwatch take place?

RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch is celebrating its 20th anniversary this academic year. The results schools submit to the RSPB are used by conservation scientists to help create a picture of how the birds are faring across the UK.

The results children send to the RSPB through Big Schools’ Birdwatch, are used in conjunction with the results sent by the public through the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch which has taken place for over 40 years. Some children might like to take part in Big Garden Birdwatch at home with their families (this year 29th – 31st Jan).
