Workshop 3: 'Overcoming obstacles'

We decided Noah must have been good at solving problems and must have had to think hard about how to succeed. In teams of 10 we had to try to get across a dangerous river without leaving anyone behind! We only had 12 stepping stones which wasn't enough to get to the other side, how would we work this out?!

We persevered and tried out different suggestions from our team members. Eventually we all got across safely making sure we thought about the children with the smallest steps so they didn't fall in!

Next we were given a plan, just like God gave Noah, which we had to follow exactly - after all, if Noah hadn't followed God's plan, the ark might not have floated! We all worked together to make sure we included all the details, once we were finished we had a go at the obstacle course we had made! 

Our last problem solving activity was a distance challenge, how far away from our starting line could we stick a post-it note? This was great for encouraging us to try each others' ideas and use trial and error to stretch as far as we could - the end results were quite impressive!

Finally we reflected on what skills we had used to complete our challenges. We agreed that something which seems impossible to start with can be achieved if we work together and persevere. We thought about how Noah must have shown a huge amount of perseverance to complete what seemed like an impossible task.

We had a fantastic session and really enjoyed our Journey Day.
