Workshop 5: Floating and Sinking

Science Session ~ floating and sinking.

In our Science Session we made links between the work Mr Noah did in building and loading the ark with our own experiments on floating and sinking. Working in pairs we filled a test tank with water before selecting items that might float. Each time we thought of an object, we tried to predict if it would float. Most of the time we found our predictions were right. If something sank we tried to find a way to make it float. Amazingly, we found we had lots of ideas and we shared them with our team. We showed perseverance as we didn't give up, we just kept trying out ideas.

During a short break we had a reflection time. We were asked what we might say if God asked us to perform a seemingly impossible task and we wrote our thoughts and replies to God on post-it notes in the shape of speech bubbles.

Finally we were given wooden platforms that did float but we had to try and load them with tubes representing the animals and people that had to be taken on-board the ark. Loading the cargo two by two actually worked but again we had to be really careful, otherwise everything tipped over and the cargo fell straight in the water!

Soon it was time to continue on our journey day, leaving Mrs Mack and Mrs Hand with the mopping up!
