  • A Jolly Afternoon!

Mon 16 Oct 2023 Mrs Hill

We were thrilled to be invited to help In Jolly Good Company make their Mr and Mrs Jolly scarecrows this afternoon in the Village Hall. We had such good fun painting their faces, choosing (and trying on!) their clothes and finishing the afternoon with an enthusiastic sing a long! Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon - we were delighted with our creations and can’t wait for the Scarecrow Trail this Sunday! 😊 #TogetherWeGrow #TogetherWeGive #InJollyGoodCompany

  • Worship Team Take the Lead

    Mon 10 Oct 2022

Today Worship Team shared the story of Martin Luther King Jr.

We welcomed everyone to worship by lighting the candle. We then shared this video called 'Dream On':Dr Martin Luther King - 'Dream on' - BBC Teach

After the video we asked the children to think about how Martin Luther King helped to change the world and how his faith helped him. We wondered how Martin Luther King followed the example Jesus set in this Bible verse.

‘If someone does wrong to you, do not pay him back by doing wrong to him. Try to do what everyone thinks is right.  Do your best to live in peace with everyone.’

    Romans 12: 17-18

We asked which of our values Martin Luther King was showing when he talked about freedom. We decided that it was 'Hope' because of the way he embraced justice.

We chose the song 'Trust In You' by Lauren Dagle which is all about trusting God and having faith, even when it is really difficult: Lauren Daigle - Trust In You (Lyric Video) - YouTube

Mon 10 Oct 2022 Mrs Hill

  • Queen Elizabeth II

Fri 09 Sep 2022 Mrs Hill

We join the nation in mourning as we remember and celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

We will be using these resources from the Church of England to support us as we navigate our way through this challenging time: https://www.churchofengland.org/remembering-her-majesty-queen#prayer

There is a book of condolence in St Giles' Church if you would like to add your message. The church will also be open for reflection and prayer.

With all prayers for our school and our families at this time.

Gracious God, we give thanks for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth,

her faith and her dedication to duty.

Bless our nation as we mourn her death and may her example continue to inspire us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    “Thank you Ma’am, for everything.”

  • Flag Making with Nicola Davis and Cranborne Chase AONB

    Mon 06 Jun 2022

We were delighted to be chosen to take part with local artist Nicola Davis who visited us at school to lead this exciting project. Chase and Chalke Landscape Partnership Scheme are the organisers led by Cranborne Chase AONB. They are creating a series of ten flags that represent memories and stories associated with the beautiful Cranborne Chase, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It was a two-stage process, on the first day, Nicola visited and helped us to make sketches reflecting the images that we associated with our chosen theme: 'The Beauty Around Us'. She then brought all of these together to make a beautiful design, where everyone's sketch was included.

On her second visit, she brought the silk flag, which was huge, with our design applied with lines of wax - so that the spread of the paint could be controlled. The whole flag was then stretched on a giant frame and Nicola explained how it would be painted.

The flag will then go on display with 10 others in the series at various events, including the Chalke Valley History Festival, in Cranborne AONB over the next couple of years. We really look forward to being able to welcome it back and hope to have it on permanent display at WSG in the future.

A huge thank you to Chase and Chalke, Cranborne Chase AONB and artist Nicola Davis for enabling us to be a part of such a special project.

  • Oak Class explore the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with some Midnight Magic!

    Tue 24 May 2022

On Tuesday we were incredibly fortunate to be invited to take part in a concert organised by Bournemouth Symphony orchestra!

BSO's free KS2 Schools Concerts were back with another specially themed concert featuring music inspired by the night time with a sprinkling of magic!

The concert featured an exciting selection of music and took us all on a journey through the magical night. We explored the night sky, the marvellous moon and the stars through a variety of well-known and new composers such as William Grieg, Saint-Saens and Jessie Montgomery.

There was also the premiere of James Redwood’s new participatory piece, Cant’ Get To Sleep, created with schools in the local area and built-in partnership with SoundStorm. We took part in this exciting project and performed the song accompanied by the full orchestra and complete with Makaton signs and body percussion. It sounded amazing!

At the end of the concert, there was a special treat when the orchestra played the theme to the Harry Potter films - the children's faces were a picture.

It was an utterly brilliant experience and a complete joy to share it together. The best quote of the day was from one of our Year 4s: "It's like being inside music."

    Just magical.

  • Year 4 Reach New Heights at Osmington Bay!

    Fri 06 May 2022

At the beginning of May, we took our amazing Year 4s to PGL at Osmington Bay in Weymouth for a three day residential. The weather could not have been more perfect and the children had an absolutely brilliant time. They challenged themselves to (literally!) reach new heights throughout their time away and impressed everyone with their courage, resilience and compassion towards each other. Thank you so much to our PTA and Governors for generously subsiding the trip again this year - we are so grateful to you. A huge well done Year 4 - we could not be prouder of you all.
