  • Wimborne St Giles Flower Festival

    Wed 22 Jul 2015
To add to all our celebrations for the end of term we were delighted to be involved in the church flower festival. This year's theme 'Say it with Flowers' helped us to select some craft activities in our regular Creative Arts afternoons. Groups of children made beautiful flower designs, experimenting with different paints and techniques. Another group made 3D flower pictures which could be used as a greetings card. The whole church looked splendid and was much admired by all the visitors over the busy festival weekend. Special thanks to our Pre-School who added a wonderful display of their own entitled 'Save the Bees'.

  • Salisbury Cathedral Trip

    Thu 09 Jul 2015

Today the whole school enjoyed an excellent day at Salisbury Cathedral. The whole day was a wonderful experience, filled with much awe and wonder. Everyone was overwhelmed by the grand size of the cathedral and its gothic architecture. The children were given a interactive guided tour by the education officers which included:

    • A place of worship tour

    • Silence/thanksgiving activity

    • Vestments/Artefacts workshop

The children were also able to visit the Magna Carta exhibition, seeing the actual document that was presented to King John!

We had lunch outside and then took part in a very calming Collective Worship before we set off home.

Elm Class have been keeping a close eye on their tadpoles, they seem to like the boiled lettuce and are getting bigger, slowly!

  • Summer Concert

Sun 05 Jul 2015 Oaks Reporters

Our Summer concert, held on 2nd July was fantastic!

The hall was full of friends and relations, staff and Governors. There were lots of parents eating biscuits! The audience were entertained with an afternoon of Music including singing, instrumental pieces and tunes we wrote ourselves. The theme was 'Celebration' as we tried to include parts of our work from Music lessons to worship songs.

The whole school sang a round before the youngest children shared their songs with actions. This was followed by the guitar medley performed by a group of Year 3 children who have been working with the Dorset Music Service. After a quick change, the Elm Tree Class surfed onto the stage and entertained us with a Beach Boys song.

Next, our oldest class sang a silly song about recycling before transporting the audience to the Rainforest for an atmospheric performance of a piece they had composed themselves.

We sang two rousing songs to end, one from our Maths curriculum and one from our Worship collection.

The programme of events was co-ordinated by our Music subject leader, Mrs Mackonochie and Alfie designed the front cover.

A BIG 'Thank you' to everyone who took part and all the people who came to watch and listen.

  • Elm Class trip to the Swanage Steam Railway

Thu 02 Jul 2015 Elm Class
Elm Class celebrated their History topic about George Stephenson with a trip to Norden where they boarded the steam train and travelled to Swanage. It was amazing to see a real steam train in action and how different it was to Stephenson's first model The Rocket.
