  • Setting off on our Spiritual Journey!

Fri 21 Oct 2016 Mrs Hill

At the end of this half term, the whole school community took part in our very first'Spiritual Journey' day!

The aim of the day was to give our whole school community a chance to reflect on our Core value of Perseverance and explore it in real depth.

We started off the day together before heading off in mixed age groups to a carousel of workshop activities based on the Bible story of Noah's Ark. Each session involved a range of creative, interactive and reflective resources and we had great fun indoors and out!

Parents joined us for the morning as we began our journey and accompanied us as the children travelled around the school - it was fantastic to see so many of you there.

Huge thanks to all of the staff for helping to ensure the day ran smoothly and for organising their individual workshops.

We were all very impressed by the quality of responses we received from the children and their thoughtful comments about the challenges Noah must have faced and the importance of persevering both individually and as a team. They surpassed all our expectations in the way they were able to link the value to their own lives and in the way they worked together and helped each other in every session.

We really had a fantastic time and I think it is safe to say the whole day was a huge success!

  • 'Gathering the Harvest'

Fri 21 Oct 2016 Mrs Hill
Yesterday, we gathered together with friends and families to celebrate our annual Harvest Festival. Led by our new Team Rector, Reverend Robert Simpson and with prayers and poems performed by Oak Class, it was a wonderful way to say thank you for the Harvest. Our talented children also contributed to the Order of Service –many thanks to Alanis for our front cover design and to Rowan, Amelia, Ayla, Bob and Jessica for the inside illustrations. We are hugely grateful, as ever, to Mr John Radford for his organ accompaniment and to our bell ringers for such a wonderful start to our Harvest Celebrations. Thank you to all of you who donated food for the Trussel Trust food banks. These parcels will go towards families in real need this Harvest time.
  • Wimborne St Giles wins First School Choir Competition!

Wimborne St Giles First School comes out on top in Choir Competition

On Tuesday night at the Barrington Court Theatre in Ferndown, children from a variety of local schools were invited to perform in the District Council Chairman’s First Schools Choir Competition.

Whilst facing stiff competition from 5 other local schools, the panel of judges unanimously decided that our children were the winners!!!  Although the youngest choir member had only just turned four, what stood out was the children’s confidence, their enthusiastic singing and their enjoyment during the performance.

The school choir will now record a Christmas single at a professional recording studio, written by Mike Barron, a local composer, which will be broadcast on local and national radio over the festive period. Proceeds from the single will go towards a variety of the Chairman’s local charities.

I think you'll agree our children absolutely shone on the night and we couldn't be more proud of them all. Well done to all - you are superstars!!
