Oak Class' Sensational Samba Show
Tue 29 Nov 2016Yesterday, our talented Year 3 and 4 children entertained their parents and the rest of the school with the sound of Samba! The children have been learning to play Samba drums with Dorset Music Service over the past few weeks and we were all so impressed with the level of skill they had acquired in such a short space of time.
A huge well done to the children and also to Mrs Mack for not only helping the children to prepare for the concert, but for joining in!
Their focus was excellent and afterwards, we all got a chance to join in too, which was great fun! See below for photos.

Radio station re-launch!
Sun 27 Nov 2016Russell Prue from Anderton Tiger Radio (the radio's inventor!) was back in school in November to see us for the day and train a new group of Year 4 children.
By the end of the day the children knew how to create a broadcast, could deliver an intro and outro and are now beginning to put together their own shows.
Russell also very kindly provided us with our own jingles and a brand new piece of kit, which we all loved using!
We have now embarked on a very exciting journey into radio broadcasting for the school - watch this space!

WSG Choir record the Christmas single!
Tue 22 Nov 2016Today the choir set off for 'A Room with a View' recording studio to lay down the vocals for the Charity Christmas single 'Is it true what they say about Christmas?'
It was very exciting to be in real life recording studio and to hear ourselves singing for the very first time!
The children were absolutely fantastic all morning and were very professional!
A big thank you to Mrs Mack and Mrs Esterling for helping in our 'green room' and to Steve Smith at the recording studio for allowing the children to have such a fantastic opportunity.
Thanks again to Mike Barron and Councillor David Shortell for all the encouragement on the day, it was such fun!
The track will now be mixed ready to be released in time for Christmas - watch this space!
We are so very proud of them all.

Wimborne St Giles continues its winnng streak!
Wed 09 Nov 2016Today children from Years 3 and 4 took part in a Football Tournament with three other local schools and won!
The team didn't concede a goal in any of their matches and are to be warmly congratulated for their effort, determination and team work!
Huge thanks to Mrs Esterling, Mrs Kennard and Mrs Williams for accompanying the children to and from Cranborne Middle School and for cheering them on. This is the first football tournament that Wimborne St Giles have won in the school's history so a huge well done to the entire team - another victory to be very proud of!

Year 3 and 4 Visit the Houses of Parliament!
Sat 05 Nov 2016Yesterday, before the sun was up, some very excited (and sleepy!) children boarded a coach and headed off to London.
Our first stop was the Houses of Parliament and we started our visit with an immersive video projected onto all four walls of a special media room within their Education Centre. This told the story of Parliament from 1215 and Magna Carta to the present day. We learned all about the House of Commons and how MPs are elected and the difference between this and the House of Lords. We were particularly fascinated by the number of times the buildings were destroyed and then had to be rebuilt!
We then set off in groups to various rooms within this very famous and historic building, including the 'Queen's Robing Room', The Royal Gallery, the Princes Chamber and the Central Lobby. We saw lots of famous faces as we walked though these rooms and were very interested to see how much gold there was on the furnishings especially when we found out it was real! As we approached the House of Lords, we were informed that we were standing in the exact spot above where Guy Fawkes was discovered as part of the famous Gunpowder plot!
Once we entered the House of Lords, we decided that we much preferred this room to the House of Commons particularly as it was decorated in Wimborne St Giles red! (There was much more gold in this room too!) We were shown all the microphones and TV cameras for when the House is is session and the idea that any of us could be a Lord or Baroness one day really caught our imagination!
We finished the guided part of our tour in the oldest part of the Place of Westminster, Westminster Hall, built by William the Conqueror's son in 1086. We were thrilled to be able to stand on the spot where many famous people have made speeches, including the Queen, Charles 1st and Nelson Mandela. We were also told that the hall was used for feasts, parties and even for playing tennis by Henry V111!
We also had an unexpected opportunity to observe a real live debate in the House of Commons! We tiptoed quietly as mice to sit in the members gallery and were so excited to be sitting in such an important and historic place at the heart of British democracy. We left the Houses of Parliament with not just a much better idea of how the political system works in Great Britain but also how we all have an important role to play in our country's future. Who knows, one day we might have an ex-WSG pupil sitting on those famous red or green benches!
After a quick photo opportunity in front of Big Ben, we boarded the coach for a mobile picnic lunch as we were chauffeured to the Natural History museum. For lots of us, there was only one room that we wanted to head to first - the Dinosaurs! There we met a terrifying T-Rex, velociraptors, stegosaurus bones and dinosaur eggs. The whole exhibit was really enthralling - especially when some of them moved!
The next part of the museum we visited was the Mammals and we were blown away by the life size blue whale that ran the entire length of the room. A quick zoom through the fossils and then we headed through the centre of the Earth to the volcanoes and earthquakes room. There we were able to see some of the people caught in the eruption in Pompeii by Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. We also had an opportunity to experience what an earthquake might feel like in a 'shop' in Japan!
All too soon it was time to say farewell to London and head back to WSG. We had such a fantastic day and I think all of us who went felt so privileged to be granted access to some of the most famous and treasured places in Britain today. It was definitely a day to remember!
