Workshop 4: 'Dance and Drama'

The story of Noah has some really strong elements of perseverance that run through it. I wanted to show the children that you don't always have to read, write or speak in order to tell a story. Part of the learning process was to show the children that dance and/ or drama can be powerful tools that can capture  elements or retell stories.

Drama

I had a fantastic day teaching everyone 'Perseverance'through Dance and Drama. The session started with us thinking about parts of the story that were linked with perseverance and how we could show this in a ' freeze- frame ' The children were fantastic at choosing different cards and then working collaboratively to decide on a freeze frame image. Once they had perfected their frame, they then performed this to the rest of the groups who had to work out which part of Noah's story it portrayed.

Dance

I found a wonderful piece of classical music by the ' Toyko Kosei Wind Orchestra 'that captured the story perfectly. The music enabled the children to be creative and yet at the same time had different elements to it allowing the children to hear the changes. I have to say that all the groups worked incredibly hard and in record time everyone managed to create their own dance.

We certainly do have some talented children out there!

A great day and a special thank you to Mrs Mack for the loan of her computer !
