  • Welcome back!

Mon 25 Apr 2022 Mrs Hill

So lovely to be all together again for the start of the Summer term! We had such a great day learning and playing in the beautiful Spring sunshine. Welcome back, WSG, we missed you!

  • Comic Relief Dance Challenge

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

Wow, wow, wow,  WSG! What an epic Red Nose Day we have just had! We literally danced all day in relays without stopping, from drop off to pick up - all to raise money for Comic Relief! Thank you so much to everyone for your donations, supporting us and cheering us on, we could not have done it without you! A massive well done to all of our amazing children at school and those at home who were able to join us virtually too! We witnessed some very impressive dance moves throughout the day and you did not stop smiling!
A huge thank you to the Cook family too for the bake sale at the end of the day, which managed to raise £118! We haven’t added the final total yet, but it looks like we smashed our fundraising target - with all the money going to children and families that need it the most, including those seeking refuge from the conflict in Ukraine. We honestly could not be prouder of you all. 😊

  • International Women’s Day

    Wed 09 Mar 2022

We celebrated International Women’s day today by exploring the amazing life and legacy of Wangari Maathai. We learned how Wangari dedicated her life to protecting the environment and supporting women by setting up an organisation called the Green Belt Movement to encourage women to plant millions of trees throughout Kenya. Among her many achievements throughout her life, Wangari was the first woman in Africa to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for her work. Since the Green Belt Movement began, over 40 million trees have been planted all over Kenya.

Wangari has also inspired many people from across the world to fight for green spaces in their own communities.

‘It’s the little things citizens do.
That’s what will make the difference.’
    - Wangari Maathai

  • Giving Hope to our local community

    Fri 04 Mar 2022

This term,  we have been thinking about how we can bring Hope to our local and global community. This afternoon, we walked around the village and left the stones that we have painted with messages of hope and love for others to find. 😊 #BringHope #SmallSchoolBigHeart #TogetherWeGive

  • World Book Day 2022

    Thu 03 Mar 2022

We celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day – with the message for all children ‘you are a reader‘! The children looked fantastic, dressed as either their favourite book characters or in their pajamas with their favourite bedtime story. We celebrated reading for pleasure and joined an exciting line up of  World Book Day book authors – including Children’s Laureate Cressida Cowell -  for a live lesson.

In light of the refugee crisis currently taking place in Ukraine, the children wanted to try and do their bit to help those most in need. In return for coming to school dressed as a book character, they each made a monetary donation which will be given to the charity 'Choose Love' who are supporting projects providing vital aid and services to those still in and fleeing the country, including: emergency medical care, food, shelter, clothes and mental health support.

  • WSG meets Olympic Hero

    Wed 16 Feb 2022

Wow - what an exciting morning we had today!

This morning we were incredibly lucky to be invited to meet Tom Daley, Olympic gold medallist, as he cycled through our villages this morning as part of a fundraising challenge for Comic Relief.

Tom’s challenge is an epic cycling, swimming, rowing and running journey from London to Plymouth and we were so impressed when he told us how far he had already cycled today when we met him for a quick pit stop!

It was fantastic to meet such an inspiring role model and it was such an amazing experience for us all!

Thank you so much to Tom for being so generous with your time (and for answering our questions about what you eat for breakfast!) and to Comic Relief and the BBC for inviting us to be part of your adventure!

Thank you too to The Drovers for the amazing hospitality and refreshments!

A huge well done to Tom - we will still be cheering you on as you continue your epic challenge!

  • Forest fun!

    Wed 02 Feb 2022

Another fab afternoon in the forest, with Jen. Ash used peelers to whittle sticks to then use as beaters to make music! Elm also whittled sticks, made rubbings from different bark and began talking about deciduous and evergreen trees. We loved having Jen with us for these sessions and can't thank you enough for all you do for the children #joy #TogetherWeGrow #forestschool

  • School Vision mural revealed!

    Tue 04 Jan 2022

Happy New Year! Last term we set the children a challenge to design a mural based on our school vision - ‘Together We Grow: Together We Give’. They had some amazing ideas and one of our talented Year 4 children then had their winning design turned into the most incredible mural in our Hall. So thankful to Claire Holmes for transforming an original idea into such a stunning piece of art, which she managed to finish in time for Christmas! It was lovely to see it again today as we think about the term ahead. We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow! #NewYear #NewAdventures #Love #Hope #Joy
