  • WSG Christmas Fair begins the countdown to Christmas

    Fri 03 Dec 2021

It was definitely looking ‘a lot like Christmas’ as we all gathered on the village green to celebrate our Christmas Fair. We began with the beautiful sound of the St Giles Church bells and then we were able to enjoy all kinds of festive fun and treats along with a visit to Father Christmas’ sparkling grotto! It was just wonderful to be together again and we were even able to squeeze in a few carols with WSG past and present. A huge thank you to our AMAZING PTA for yet another brilliant event, to the St Giles Church bell ringers for the beautiful bells and the loan of power, to Lord Shaftesbury, the Shaftesbury Estate and the Village Hall for the loan of equipment and helping us to set up. Finally, thank you so much to all who came along to support us. It was a magical way to start the Countdown to Christmas. #christmasmagic #togetherwegrow #togetherwegive #togetheragain

  • Lest We Forget: Our Service of Remembrance

Thu 11 Nov 2021 Mrs Hill

This morning, we gathered together as a school family in our Spiritual Garden for our service of Remembrance. Elm Class have been thinking about children who are affected by war and have had to leave their homes. They shared some really beautiful poems imagining life as a refugee. Oak Class had written really thought-provoking Haiku poems about war and destruction turning to love and hope, symbolised by the poppies we were wearing today. Commander Keith Barton shared the reading from John 15 v 9-17 reminding us to 'remain' in God's love and 'love one another'. We placed poppies we had made next to our silhouette of a soldier and then listened to the Last Post, before holding our two minutes silence.  We ended our time together by exploring the idea that 're-member' literally means 'to put back together again'. We asked God to help us put back together Peace, Hope, Love and Joy for everyone in the world and shared the International Prayer of Peace.  The children were so respectful and thoughtful throughout the service; it was a really special morning.

  • BBC Radio Solent Schools Climate Change Q&A with Chris Packham - we had our say!

    Wed 03 Nov 2021

As part of BBC Radio Solent's coverage of COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, we were delighted to be among 30 schools across Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to take part in a huge zoom call hosted by BBC Radio Solent this morning.

The live Schools Climate Change Q&A gave schools the opportunity to  submit climate related questions to Chris Packham for him to try and answer. There were lots of thought provoking questions and answers and the children all listened brilliantly. Charlotte in Year 2 was able to pose her brilliant question to Chris live on air- 'How do we get all the litter out of the sea?' Well done Charlotte and all the children; together we can change the world.

  • Variety Performance in aid of the Red Cross Afghanistan Appeal

Sun 31 Oct 2021 Mrs Hill

Last Sunday evening, our amazing choir took part in a Variety Performance in Wimborne in aid of the Red Cross' Afghanistan Appeal as, due to decades of conflict, years of extreme drought, and weeks of heavy fighting, 18 million people in Afghanistan need urgent humanitarian help. Thank you so much to all of our families who came along to cheer us on, to all of the grown ups who helped backstage and to our fantastic ex-Year 4 children who made a guest appearance! With the youngest on stage just four years old, the children performed our songs 'Amazing Grace' and 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' so beautifully and with such confidence - we couldn't be prouder of them all. A huge well done children for giving your all to help raise money for such a brilliant cause.

  • WSG Rocks!

    Fri 22 Oct 2021

The PTA Disco ensured that the Autumn half term ended with a bang! The theme was Rock Stars and the children didn’t disappoint with their costumes; Axel Rose, Arianna Grande, Pink and many more were represented. We danced, played games and chatted to friends, the perfect end to a busy half term.

Thank you so much to our wonderful PTA for organising with event which will help raise funds for our library project.

  • The Open to Book team return to WSG

    Wed 20 Oct 2021

We were delighted to welcome the Open the Book team back into school today for the first time this term. They retold the story of Creation with fantastic props and some very willing and enthusiastic supporting cast members! The children were spellbound during the story and behaved impeccably. We can't wait until next time to hear the next part of the story.
